    One & Two

    ★★★★

Andrew Droz Palermo's single directorial effort,One & Two, follows a pair of siblings with fantastical powers forced to a hidden life with their abusive parents. I've always found the exploration of supernatural ability on a small scale fascinating, something this film explores very well with two excellent performances.

Eva (Kiernan Shipka) and Zac (Timothée Chalamet) live on a remote farm under the watchful eye of their withering mother (Elizabeth Reaser) and abusive father (Grant Bowler). Eva and Zac have the ability…

    Scary Movie 2

    ★★

Not quite my style of humor. I want to get through the Scary Movie franchise because it has some cultural relevance, but I ultimately think almost all of this series is going to fall flat for me if it's anything like Scary Movie 2. It's just too obvious and stupid!

    Sid Is Dead

    ★★★

Sid is Dead was filmed in 2018 and released on April 28th, 2023. With five years of development hell and zero marketing, I wonder what working on movies like this is like. Hundreds of people put their time and effort into this; how can nobody be talking about this online? Does the studio care? Do the actors? Does the director or writer? I very sincerely don't understand how it's possible that thousands of dollars can be spent on a project…

    Code 8 Part II

    ★★★★

Jeff Chan's 2019 thriller Code 8 is an underrated modern science fiction film. After a crowdfunded campaign led to a feature adaptation of his 2016 short film, the film was released to modest reviews. To see it get a sequel five years later is certainly a surprise. It's fun, interesting, and slick. If you haven't seen it and discovered its existence because of Netflix's release of Code 8: Part II, I'd wholeheartedly recommend you watch both that and this film!…
