Rides about as high on vibes alone as it can, but admittedly a tough watch to get through. The atmosphere and tone is dreary and intense, and the majority of the dialogue is vague poetry that can make it feel more like you're missing something. Hard to let a lot of the dialogue wash over you the way the rest of the film does.

On paper I should love this movie, but it falls pretty damn flat. Friedkin feels incredibly stifled in his direction, lacking his signature intensity and raw shooting style, with the movie shot in a fairly sanitized fashion. Other than two powerhouse scenes from Warren Oates, the acting leaves plenty to be desired, sad to see Falk, Rowlands and Boyle with such little to work with. The comedy simply doesn't work at all, would have probably been best to try a grittier or even just dryer to be.

This movie is peak unhinged 90s, and it's a lot of fun. The choice alone to make Schwarzenegger the bumbling dad and Phil Hartman the local dad who makes all the other moms swoon is brilliant. Sinbad gets a ton of laughs, not many dull moments to think of here, and a completely batshit final sequence that relies on Schwarzenegger's wife and son not recognizing his incredibly distinct accent and uhhhh face

I went into this very cautious, hearing some folks were very put off by some choices. I gotta say, none of them bothered me in the slightest and I am ashamed to admit that maybe I'm not as bothered by CGI portrayals of dead character actors?!?! Spaeny and Johnson carry the movie on their backs, I love the set design that makes it so believable that it's taking place right after the original. The final villain is GROSS and genuinely upsetting, about as great a decision as one could expect after 45 years of a franchise. Bonus points for all the practical effects
