This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
I think the reviews on here miss the point. Sure as a music doc it’s slow paced, even seemingly pointless for most of the first half of it’s 85+ minute runtime, but as a story about friendship, mental health, addiction, and grieving loss it’s absolutely riveting.
Oh, they cleaned out the popcorn buckets and soda cups before re-using them, super sanitary!
On my last visit to Scarecrow I saw Out of Sight was faced out and it was sponsored by a friend from movie club, MrMustache, so it was an instant rental. I also love Elmore Leonard and Steven Soderbergh so I knew it was gonna be good, but I had no idea it was this good. From that amazing green lens flare at the beginning, to the trunk hood cut, there’s just so much neat stuff going on here. Really liked the flashback structure and the Lalo Shifrin-like score is A+.
Actually watched the re-released for TV version retitled Nyoka and the Lost Secrets of Hippocrates that was cut down to 100 minutes. Perils of Nyoka was apparently one of 26 Republic serials re-released as a film on television in 1966.
