I will never not love this movie. This is the third time I’ve watched it with my last viewing being 14 years ago (2011). A truly original story, amazing performances by Carey and Winslet, and underrated cinematography. In my opinion this is the best execution of any indie film to date.

An Oddly Enjoyable Watch
I don’t necessarily think it’s a good movie. I wouldn’t look forward to watching it again, yet there were aspects of it that I liked. The themes and tones of this film are like a mix between Punch Drunk Love and Columbus (possibly with a bit of Eternal Sunshine). It’s very monotone and melancholic throughout the film, but then the story has these bits of tenderness that I find comforting and thought provoking.

I’m not sure why this is such a cult classic romance flick. I really tried to enjoy it but there is nothing memorable about this film. The entire film consists of them walking around conversing in dialogue that feels forced at times. There are a few sincere moments and meaningful dialogue, but overall it became exhausting 3/4ths through. Conclave 2024
I was not able to concentrate this night and wasn’t really paying attention for the entire movie. With this being labeled as a thriller I was expecting some big scandal or assassination but it never happened. From what I saw, I thought this movie was pretty average. I’ll have to watch again to give it a true rating but that probably won’t happen lol.
