I've been overweight my entire life. As early as I can remember, (somewhere during my time in early elementary school) I can recall being mocked at or used as the butt of a joke. I've never really experienced a day in my life where I haven't been gawked at. I've always received dirty looks. It never really effected me, emotionally, (because I simply did not have the mental capacity to understand what was happening at the time) until high school.…

    "To mankind!"

I don't think I'm the same "pretentious asshole" I was at the start of college. The one that claimed that this movie, "stunk" or was "poorly made", for the fear of looking embarrassing and not fitting-in with what everybody else was saying at the time. Maybe I still am a pretentious asshole, and I'm just too-stupid or ignorant to realize it. But I can't hide behind a thin veil and claim that this movie "sucks". Are there more…

    "Here comes the last scene."

First and foremost, Dead or Alive is a genuinely dramatic and effective cop drama. The... unbelievably insane first 8 minutes might lead you to think otherwise, (and I wouldn't blame you!), but it is, and it's strong! Features many jaw-dropping moments, especially towards its shocking and hysterical finale, but it's not shy about taking its time. Miike takes a lot of time to establish who these groups of people are, especially Jojima. You don't realize…

"I will come back for you!"

More than accomplishes the job, even if I might have a slight bias since I love thrillers like this. It's most interesting moments, (like nearly every survival film) come from how it handles and depicts death. I recently re-watched The Grey (2011) and death in that film was represented by a pack of wolves. In here, the grim reaper is in the form of a heavy storm. The pitch-black ocean Chris becomes stranded in…
