Love, Brooklyn 2025
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Well directed and shot with endearing characters. The complexity of their relationships are the highlight of this film. Too bad the writing white washes genuine issues of displacement and gentrification in favor of self inserting an opinion about how people should feel about their changing city. It could’ve at least been done in any way other than our protagonist finally finishing the article he’s been struggling to write at the very end. A narrative only applicable to artists who don’t need to worry about these consequences. Hoped for a little more here considering the humanity they were able to achieve.

Felt like it was made for me, my little brother and older cousins. Thought about us watching stupid videos like La Caida de Edgar and cholo adventures on YouTube together. Everything in life, even the mundane, used to feel monumental. Gotta remember they still can be. Big thank you to director Sean Wang for introducing the film and prefacing it with a statement that like others in the genre, this coming of age film isn’t just for the demographic depicted, but for anyone who can feel themselves in the characters.
