This movie is both a love letter and callout post for DC comics and the stand-up comedy scene. Not a rehabilitation of the Joker, but an important alternative context. And the wrenchingly real presentation of a common trans experience against this incredible neon surreal multimedia backdrop. Loved it. I love trans people and our art so much.

It was interesting to come back to this after seeing it in the cinema 22 years ago when it first came out. At the time I remember liking it much less than Reloaded, which I loved for most of the reasons a 15-year-old boy loves The Matrix Reloaded. Is the ending of Revolutions weak? Yes. Gorgeously shot with a harrowing story. The acting is amazing and the plot is outstandingly paced, even for a movie nearly 3 hours long - I don't think my heart rate went below 90bpm at any point in that time. A difficult watch, but a necessary one - though sadly the people who would most benefit from watching this movie won't be able to *see* it.

Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)

I was nervous when this was announced because I loved the Gail Simone runs of Birds of Prey so much, and because the DCU has been the trash fire that it is, so I was delighted and relieved to see that finally someone did my girl Harley Quinn justice in a live-action movie. I wasn't expecting to see autistic-coded Huntress but I'm so glad she's there. There's more to say but tl;dr this movie is an absolute delight and I notice new cool things every time I watch it.
