This is a hypocritical documentary about the evils of the "celebrity industry" that reaps the benefits of the paparazzi and media saturation of Amy Winehouse's life when it suits the filmmakers and treat it with scorn when it doesn't. It's also a film that invites us to make judgements on her life, perpetuating this celebrity obsessed culture that "Amy" tries to tell us contributed to ending her life. The focus on her undoubtedly amazing music is sadly lacking after the beginning of the film as then we delve into the emotionally manipulative heart of the film.
This is a film to make you smile more than any other. Like the cashier in the store that Joe Manganiello is trying to bring a bit of joy to, as a viewer I couldn't help but be happy throughout.
The film's depiction of what it means to be a man with male friends is one of the most positive I've ever seen on screen. It is a film where the characters have respect for each other and the "Male…
Cliché-ridden garbage that whitewashes homophobia only to atone for its errors in a cringeworthy epilogue which bears no relation to the dramatic heart of the story. A passable war film ruined by a sloppily delivered "message" or a woefully insensitive telling of a tragic life.
