  scorsese directs the hell out of a script that turns unbelievably goofy. it really highlights just how great of a director marty is. it's just that there's a point, maybe about 2/3rds in that the whole thing becomes so fuckin silly. de niro is terrifying but the way he's transformed into this almost superhuman unkillable monster kind of undercuts the whole thing. the unfortunate reality of the world is that people as cruel as max cady exist and they have…
