The frothing sea water weaves its way around the cruise liner. As it snails through the wide blue gulf, its passengers eat, dance and live. Amongst them a man casts off to sail his own sea. But his path transcends time's linearity, takinf both he and us from ancient Egypt to the Spanish Civil War. All the time pondering questions de nos humanités.

There's a perfect blend of banality and drama. The music serves as its editing. It's all one take and most of it seems improvised.

And it's all one take. Absolutely sublime filmmaking.

Looper is slick, smart and most importantly has a soul. Its stylistic cyberpunkesque aesthetic is undercut with a fantastic narrative that really invests you in the characters. It proves once again that films with big ideas can have an actual human connection. I don't understand how it's being held up as our generation's Matrix because its inspiration is much wider than that - which includes Bladerunner, Terminator and even Firefly.

It will remind you how sci-fi films can be so brilliant.

I still think this is one of the most important films made in the last few years.

I also knew that it would one day serve me well to prepare for an exam!
