  been meaning to watch this for nearly thirty years, and wow, extremely my shit of course. they just don’t make them like they used to and by them I mean low-stakes character study movies for grown ups and also absolute disasters of 37 year old men (they’re broken like this by 19 now because of the World Wide Web)

  Would make an alternatingly dull and fascinating double feature with "Shut Up and Play the Hits", a documentary of one of my other favorite navel-gazing-but-not-really-getting-there media creators. In each film the on-stage stuff sizzles while the interviews and behind the scenes work serve as hagiography that no one can really get behind. The alcoholism and abuse apologia threaded throughout is unforgivable, and even if Harmon's aware of this that doesn't mean he has actually learned anything. You can hate yourself…

  my christmas wish is that one day i become a person who wouldn't watch this
