  with such an interesting premise and so much potential it’s a shame this movie drowned itself such repetitive, non clever satire, and just general bits that didn’t land. there are so many incohesive moving parts none of it really fits together; the lady’s obsession with sauce, the alien insect creatures, the douchey steven yuen character, the random bisexual girl that heroically stands up to the Trump caricature and then immediately attempts adultery … an hour in and i’m still wondering…

  it’s giving aaron sorkin, with less word salad and more genuine character building. the movie sort of collapses on itself towards the end when it toys with alternate endings which felt like an excessively meta and lame rhetorical cop out but maybe i’m not grasping the directors intent with that. ambiguity is definitely his goal (monk is intelligent yet annoyingly self centered, cliff is introspective yet reckless, the mom is losing a battle with dementia but she’s homophobic towards her…
