Super cool and a worthwhile watch just to see the aesthetic, messaging and mechanics as a product of a different breeding ground.

I can't focus on the visual spectacle for more than 2 seconds at a time. It's super impressive but it's just too much. There's so much intricate movement, there's so much bright colour, there's so much cutting. The consequence is inevitable - a climactic showdown that just reads as a fluid dynamics simulation. It's so removed that there's no real sense of weight, which is ok, because I don't think the film was that interested in being weighty.

I think I felt a little disappointed or cheated by this. Because if the film has you in a chokehold and it's squeezing so tight, but doesn't deliver on a satisfying and worthwhile story, then it just feels like all the tension and dread and unease and suspense was for nothing.

In the Mood for Love is such a good title for this film. It's so drenched in atmosphere, drenched in the sensuality of unresolved tension and unmet glances, and drenched in desire smothered by the confines of the frame.
Wong talks about the surreptitious framing, placing the audience in the scene as a nosy neighbour, homage to the social circumstance in which he grew up.
The atmosphere of the film luxuriates in the time period, which clearly meant a lot…

I guess Ryan Gosling keeps getting parts like this because he's got good sad eyes. Can't wait for Ken to realise he's just a mass manufactured piece of plastic token boyfriend.

    Post-Barbie edit:
Call it half right with the Ken prediction?
