When Fall Is Coming 2024
Unremarkable in the grand scheme of Ozon’s oeuvre. The melodrama feels too absurd for the more reserved tone that is established at the beginning, almost as if it’s trying to land somewhere between the playfulness of The Crime Is Mine and brooding tension of Swimming Pool, but struggles to pull either off.
Despite that, it’s playful enough to be entertaining and the central performance is endearing, leading to a finale that surprised me with how much of an emotional punch it had.
