  content warning: narcissist old mom antagonist. maybe that's not as triggering for everyone else as it is for me tho

  either way. great tension and pacing. simple and contained story that works as allegory and social criticism without needing to be about either. wonderful downer of an ending too

  i think i hated this, but its contributed to enough arguments already that i cant deny theres something worth discussing here

  as a religious metaphor i find the story ugly. cosmic punishment doled out on everyone unlucky enough to come across this soulless creature.

  as a moral story i find it purely cynical. he inflicts tremendous suffering for deeply selfish reasons and gets away with it, only to find emptiness in victory.
