Dog Day Afternoon 1975
This blew me away. This film subverts the run of the mill bank robbery motifs and instead is stuffed with looks into a really complex lead in Sonny. Al Pacino is eyes bulging, sweaty, yelling, and paranoid throughout but also tones it down in some moments that really showcase Sonny in a sympathetic light. Beyond character though, commentary on sexuality, class, wellness, and the military experience in America lift Dog Day Afternoon to another tier.
