The Machinist 2004
this film is like that one friend who keeps telling you a story but takes forever to get to the point—moody, dark, and a little too obsessed with its own mystery
christian bale is absolute legend. love that guy, he commits like no one else. but the whole “oh no, what’s real, what’s not?” trope feels kinda overdone.
the vibe is cool, the shots are great, and the ending at least makes the whole trip worth it. just maybe don’t watch it when you’re already sleep-deprived—could get too real.

Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion 1970
crazy how this dude spent the whole movie committing a crime, solving his own crime, confessing to the crime just to get hit with a collective “shhh, no you didn’t”
peak satire. peak delusion. peak goofy ass soundtrack playing in the background

8½ 1963
maybe my eyes are just numb to black-and-white films at this point, or maybe i’ve just overdone it with my old movie marathon, but i swear to god i could not make sense of a single thing
half-asleep through most of it, i pushed through only to reach the end and realise —i had no idea what i just watched. a lot of artistic chaos. i get why it’s a masterpiece, but for me it felt just exhausting
maybe one day i’ll come back to it with fresh eyes and finally get the hype
