This movie is.... an interesting watch. It's bumpy at best in its overall effectiveness, but possess some notably fresh narrative direction and genuinely funny moments. It doesn't surprise me that Pharrell (the self proclaimed "new black") executive produced this movie, because it is very, very faux progressive. If you are able to ignore that (and the mostly mediocre acting) it becomes an enjoyable take on the "coming-of-age-in-the-hood" subgenre and actually possesses some racial insights that a wider audience should be exposed to. It also doesn't hurt that you (*****SPOILER****) get to see Tyga die on camera.

(Spoiler alert: your typical white savior movie disguised as a racially progressive one) John Grisham be like, "I'm gonna write a book about black oppression but 1. marginalize all the black characters in it and HELL 2. center it on the struggles the white protagonist faces for being less racist than his peers."

This film takes two extremes of female character archetypes and fleshes them out into believable, complex human beings, all while keeping you wildly entertained for two hours with an unexpectedly unpredictable crime spree story. A must watch.
