Pitch Black 2000
Yeah it's generic monster horror, I don't think there's a single new idea here. But with Vin Diesel delivering corny one-liners it doesn’t take itself any more seriously than it needs to be, and it actually makes a half-decent job of throwing you off on who'll live or die.
A fun flick if you want more Aliens or Event Horizon.

The Vordalak has a "art school project" feel to it, don't know how to describe it better than that; like the result of a brainstorming project of scenes and themes that were then later fit to Tolstoy's story.
