The Life of Emile Zola 1937
The Life of Emile Zola leaves me conflicted. On the one hand, despite how quickly it went through the title character's early life, it's a well-acted, evocative biography of a compelling man and his experiences with injustice. On the other hand, the way it handles the Dreyfus affair is like if "To Kill A Mockingbird" was just a story of a man accused of rape. It could've been such a great film if it had the guts to challenge antisemitism, especially in 1937.
