Demme has a deft hand on this movie. I find his ability to blend comic absurdity and just plain silliness with substantive and poignant moments of class and gendered struggles remarkable (much like Something Wild, and maybe better). His grassroots humanism shines through when she gets to Manhattan, which is something I love most about the more lighthearted Demme joints.

The Bridges of Madison County 1995
So beautifully understated and poignant. A true adult romance that ignores that pitfalls of plot and drama. Perhaps Streep's best performance.

Megalopolis 2024
God damn it. What a silly movie. But stripping all of its reflection of The Room, all of its egregious exposition and over explanation, and shaking off my own jaded cynicism, I agree with everything he has to say about art. Deep down I want to feel this way and floating in Coppola’s silliness got me there. It’s an absolute mess, and I’ll agree with pretty much every critique lobbied at this film. But the heart of it shines through and I’m here for it.
