There is not a single element in which Memories of Murder falters in its stride. Bong Joon Ho is a truly legendary director. I have never liked any "true crime" story before and yet here I am proudly declaring Memories of Murder a masterpiece. That's largely because of how the film's story is told in such a compelling way. Those soft droplets of rain, long winding shots that wade through the crime scene, torturing suspects in a fit of irrational madness find the sicko who did this, a final dropkick deep into your very gut.

Mickey 17 2025
Don't make this review about Parasite, don't make this review about Parasite *ahem* So, Bong Joo Ho—dammit. This movie went make in fourth in my mind for forever before I finally decided on what to rate it. I loved it, but damn is it hard to not hold it to an impossible standard that Bong Joo Ho and the amazing cast kinda gave themselves. By all means, Mickey 17 is definitely worth watching in the theater, Robert Pattinson kills here (as one would hope) and it's a great sci-fi film with a genuinely fun plot. But man, Parasite was good.

Emilia Pérez 2024
Abysmal dogshit. Fuck it, let’s give it 13 Oscar nominations for being the most uninspired Oscar bait ever. I don’t care enough to give this a half formal review. In a musical about Mexico directed and written by French people, no one seems to be able to sing either that or it was a choice on the director to make sure the numbers were delivered as blandly as possible on bare bones instrumentals. I hate this movie.

Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 2024
Kevin Costner's three hour long, western epic passion project is a sight to behold, even if it can be a mixed bag at times. Horizon gets a lot of things right: it's portrayal of Native Americans for instance is a very high strong point and so the movie's general discussion of American history. Despite having several plot lines going on at once, each one manages to bring something new and interesting to the film, which isn't easily done with a…
