hard for me not to read this in part in response to the right-wing adoption of Starship Troopers (the movie) as a literal pro-fascist text. An emphasis on the recording and creation of propaganda, of manipulating image, of the grotesqueness of the "enemy" as justification of their extermination. In that light, I think a lot of the potentially-wonky choices make more sense. Yes, it's heavy-handed, it has to be, look what happened with Starship Troopers. I can imagine that won't…

okay there was a lot I liked in Longlegs, even though I think the writing was weak and the tonal balance didn't come together for me. I don't think adding Stephen King to the mix helped

again, there's a lot that I think could've worked! There were a couple points in the movie where I found myself going "fuck I kinda love how stupid this is". But I just don't like Perkins as a writer! I liked the style of both IAMTPTLIYH and Longlegs but was let down by the writing, and this is more of the same. Eh

Very creepy, great use of shadow. The “mom” in the doorway is very freaky, and her movements while cooking are uncanny. I’m not sold on the twist, it feels a little creepypasta. But vibes-wise excellent

if i got an alert on my phone saying "DO NOT LOOK AT THE MOON" i would of course immediately look at the moon

anyway, kind of a bummer that this goes from "looking at the moon makes you obsessed with the moon and you want to make others look at it" to "looking at the moon makes you a MOON MONSTER with a GLOWING FACE and a SPOOKY VOICE". it's okay for your spooky thing to not have a Recognizable Monster! just kinda feels like a waste of a cool, simple concept.
