Are we talking about the same Friedkin? The very guy who helmed such greats as The Exorcist, Sorcerer, and The French Connection? Absolutely flubs this one.

The pieces are there, and that car chase scene aaaaaaalmost makes up for the disjointed rest of the picture, which feels like it has zero flow between scenes. Kinda like they divided the script up ABCABC and gave every A scene to one director, B to another, and C to yet a third.

Yearns to be BIG with a capital B. Cinematography is phenomenal. Dafoe is wasted. Oh well.

Razor-sharp dialogue and wit. A joy from beginning to end.

What is the point of all this? whenever I watch a Lynch film, it just feels weird for weird's sake; it's probably just who he is but I usually think, "This could be much better."

Manic to a fault. Absolutely does not have enough ideas to warrant an hour and 48 minute runtime. I was exhausted in the first 15 minutes and it didn't get any easier. A chuckle here, a chortle there. Despite the labor of love that's evident in the final product, it doesn't bring enough new to the genre nor depth the story to keep me entertained; relying heavily on sophomoric humor for "laughs" throughout.
