A Real Pain 2024
I found myself bawling in the theater at a few points, particularly during the scene at the concentration camp and the scene where Benji plays the piano, as well as “I’m gonna be okay.” The performances from top to bottom are absolutely fantastic and the script really captures the lived experience Eisenberg must have had. While a captivating watch during, it is ultimately disappointing as it bites off more than it can chew. Often times I found myself questioning what the motivation behind each character was, and it’s unclear in execution whether there’s an answer at all. It has no right to be this good. It really doesn’t. The leads are beyond fantastic singing and acting. Jeff Goldblum wasn’t a distraction.
