Really? I thought I wanted this. I'm not a huge fan of musicals but I'm seasoned enough to know when something is terrible. I read the novel and always wanted to see the Broadway production. The Wizard of Oz is my second favorite musical of all time next to the Robert Wise production of West Side Story. This probably should have worked for me. It couldn't have worked less for me.

Ugh and oof and damn and wtf...
Pros: incredible cinematography and lighting, next level even. Great score. The use of the classic Universal Studios logo.
Cons: Everything else. This was mind blowingly boring. It's mind numbingly pretentious. It's also incredibly overperformed. Dracula is not Shakespeare.
I really should give this one star but it's well made in terms of photography, editing, and sound.

And erm... why exactly did this win over Sundance? This was mediocre derivative nothingness with weird avant garde moments (mostly scribble over the frame). It seemed to want to grow up and be Trainspottting but instead never matured beyond being dropped off by its parents on the first day of school.

Lowlifes 2024
Lowlifes is absolutely fantastic. It has just about everything a horror fan can hope for. More importantly it is enormously entertaining.
Darkly funny, blood soaked, fairly original, fun, lean, and genuinely creepy at times, Lowlifes delivers in metric tons.
Unfortunately I can't get into details because there's a lot to protect here. Trust me, you want to experience this completely unspoiled.
The screenplay is absolutely fabulous for what it is and does an incredible job at misdirection.
