    Too much…?

Suitable Flesh is just enough of all the right notes. Lovecraft to the core and led by two powerhouse women. A sexy thrill ride relayed to you from the account of the protagonist to remind you hindsight is 20/20. The end of this movie reanimated my desire for unhinged gore that defies logic.

dazzling directorial one hitter. I selfishly wish this filmmaker had gone on to create more films because this one was a joy to watch. the camera work feels delicate, artful, and innovative decades later. there is camp and silliness in the pacing and delivery of the dialogue. the speaking is dubbed in a way that is perfectly imperfect to me and adds to the chaotic neutral tone that makes this movie special. this movie lurks through the muck that is the male gaze and the fragile incel mind. the result is something both ambient, intelligent, and evil.

Really demanding role for Naomi Scott. Effective jump scares and some interesting gore. I think this film would have benefited from more practical FX. I always feel a bit disappointed when I see a new film that pulls imagery from movies that are also modern. The premise of this series reminds me of It Follows and in this sequel, some scenes and camera work felt directly lifted from It Follows or Hereditary. Going back further into film history for inspiration…

Brutal, brutally honest, and a relatable laugh riot. Crafted with care and community. The love story here is both chaotic and candid. You can tell when a film is created by someone who loves movies and that is the case here. Influences that call back to the 80’s, 90’s, and even Hammer Horror make this movie feel nostalgic and give it an edge.
