A strong continuation of the original franchise. Good characters and strong themes of conservation, particularly of whales. I felt that the movie followed many of the same story beats as the original, and did away with some of the driving forces from the original. Unobtainium is not longer of interest now, it's all about the whale sacks. We have to kill the lieutenant again, in basically the same way. But I guess we will get to do it in the next film as well. Overall a good sci-fi action film with strong pro-conservation and anti-colonial messages.

Baraka 1992
A seemingly transcendent journey that examines the deeply spiritual nature of human beings. I enjoyed the non-narrative style of the film and found that I started to build my own story around the nature of spirituality, ritual, and the natural world. I feel that this film could provoke a different meaning with each viewing. My only critique is that a large part of the focus centers around the religious ceremonies and rituals of the people of Asia, which only reinforces that orientalist ideas of the exotic east. Many scenes portray the more "primitive" version of their society, which feels exploitative at times.
