The final-and best-movie in Severin’s latest Danza Macabra box set. A Gothic, Atmospheric as Hell vampire film with some striking visuals (the fog drenched landscapes and the villagers rampaging through a Cemetery), genuinely disturbing moments (that one guy who’s a sacrifice) and doomed romance between the main Vampire and the films dying protagonist. Good way to close this one out on.

    “Fuck you!”
    “That’s ’Fuck you, sir’!”

Hilarious Satanic Panic/Slasher/Action nonsense starring a miscast Lou Diamond Philips as a hardass cop who’s known for catching serial killers. If it weren’t for that, he would probably be out of the job because he’s otherwise terrible at it. That being said, there’s some great action and stunt work here, Jeff Kober is great as the Satanic killer and it never drags for a moment. ‘Fun stupidity’ is the best description I can come up with.

Pretty dumb but entertaining late 80's slasher that makes up for what it (mostly) lacks in successful humor with some effective direction and cinematography (I was left wishing the director had done more after this) and performances that are shockingly not bad. As for the kills? They aren't as great as you'd hope from a movie with a guy that has a huge meat cleaver, but it's still gory enough.

Also, love the scene where Lester drives the cop car around. Never before has an actor playing a slasher villain had such an infectious sense of joy doing something so goofy.

Some Texas Chainsaw Massacre references, and then…a nod to Eaten Alive? You are speaking my language.

A24 horror, but not as usual. Sure, there’s a slow burn and artful cinematography, but here Ti West (making a welcome return to horror movies) just wants you to enjoy yourself. No tortured “it’s about trauma” or metaphors-just gory death scenes, unapologetic sex and nudity and welcome humor to go with the atmosphere. More than anything, it’s a rare 70s/80s horror homage done right, as…
