as a whole, enjoyable for sure. the film is broken into two parts, and part one felt like overly predictable and could have used a tighter edit. the world building was good, but not great, and some of the acting borderlined campy. however, as soon as part two drops, baybeeee. shit hits the fan and what you thought you knew is turned upside down on its head. if the first part had been as WTF as the second half, it would have earned a solid 9 out of 10!

I’m realizing I really love Osgood Perkins’s cinematography and the premises to his films, but the execution is a miss. Longlegs had an amazing concept and marketing campaign based on solid as fuck cinematography and framing, but did not stick the landing. The Monkey had fun moments but as a whole didn’t wow me, and it had such a solid concept based on a King short story..it just didn’t have the oomph to push it beyond feeling like a straight-to-Hulu horror comedy.

One of my favorites of ’24!

Clever, smart, and very entertaining throughout, despite not living up to the trailer’s promise of a β€œReligious Escape Room meets Saw” experience. It was still a well-crafted film. The protagonist made mostly wise decisions and rationalizations, which is usually annoying in this genre. The dialogue and acting were top-notch.

The only gripes were in the third act, where the storytelling became less tight. However, I believe those criticizing the film now for its last…

Cute and silly, but not as good as the first, which was lightning in a bottle. This one is good enough, with enough camp and nostalgia to satisfy. There was a few plot points that did not need to be included, mainly William Defoe and Monica Belluci, and a few emotional moments were glossed over. Overall, I hope they make a third and final film and it goes out with as much bang as the original.
