  After Vox Lux and now this Brady Corbet's thing seems to be bifurcated movies where the first half shows great promise and the second half has you questioning why anything happened the way it did. The Brutalist is a huge improvement over Vox Lux and is supremely watchable but ultimately silly, which is a shame. The guy has formalist chops and the visuals and music are incredible, especially considering the budget, but the control, the knowing when to stop, it's just not there.
