    Twin Peaks: The Missing Pieces

I don’t have a review. I just wanted to tell the story about the first time I watched Fire Walk With Me. It was a letdown. Even by Lynch standards, FWWM was disjointed and made no sense.

Then the credits rolled and I realized that I had been watching “Twin Peaks: The Missing Pieces” the entire time. I’d sat through 90 minutes of deleted scenes from Fire Walk With Me thinking it was the actual movie.

    I’m a dumbass.

The feminine id, ego, and superego submerged in a blue pool of psychosexual violence. That’s the most concise way I can boil down the essence of 3 Women into a single sentence. It's a masterpiece of dreamlike atmosphere.

Bodhi Wind's grotesque sand paintings are characters in their own right. The pools are a perfect visual and symbolic companion for 3 Women's desert setting. If you look hard enough, you'll find an immense beauty under the surface of desolation.

A work of sustained agony for those of us with social anxiety.

I can’t explain why but I laughed my ass off at the basketball scene being set to “Hey Man, Nice Shot” by Filter. I am fully convinced Stiller knew the song was about Budd Dwyer’s suicide.

But like so many cult classics, Zoolander received a second life on the home video market. This was where I developed my Terrence Malick-level love for Zoolander’s zany, rapid fire parade of gags. There are entire scenes I have memorized from the sheer amount of times…

I’m both a cinephile and a second generation Mexican-American. Taking both those things into account, I’m embarrassed by how little I know about Mexican film history. While putting together a list of acclaimed Mexican films, no director stood out to me more than Arturo Ripstein. The son of Alfredo Ripstein (a famed producer during the Golden Age of Mexican Cinema), Arturo Ripstein's films are lauded for their subversive and disturbing nature. His work features deconstructions of sex, death, violence, gender identity,…
