The acting from Hopkins and Skarsgard accounts for about 2.48 of the 2.5 stars. They’re both fantastic and you can tell Hopkins is having a blast. But. Like. Beyond that? It’s just not good. Thinks it’s way smarter than it actually is but honestly doesn’t say a whole lot. Claustrophobic single location thrillers have been done a lot better. Some of the plot and character motivations don’t make much sense and big special shoutout to the giant brick of a luxury SUV that magically accelerates faster than an F1 car. Shame to waste good performances by these incredibly talented actors on this very forgettable film.

Nothing like kicking off a Saturday with an 11:30am showing of an absolutely ridiculous space body horror. If you gave someone acid and then told them to recreate Alien from memory, this is what you’d get. Not sure if that’s a good or bad thing.

I love Bong Joon Ho but this film didn’t really click for me. The satire/parody was way too on the nose and there were infinite subplots that made the whole thing a bit messy. Some of the character motivations made absolutely no sense either. It felt like Bong made a five hour film and the studio cut it in half. It’s fine, it’s humorous and relevant and Pattinson is fantastic but it’s pretty disappointing that this thing is as disorganized as it is. Doubt I will remember much about it.

Eggers knocks it out of the goddamn park once again. While it doesn’t quite reach the performances of The Lighthouse or the cinematography and general cinematic experience of The Northman, those are extremely high bars to clear and this movie is still fantastic. Pacing is my only real complaint and definitely think this could have been fifteen to twenty minutes shorter. But sheesh. Lily Rose Depp is SO good and they might as well have just cast Nosferatu himself with…
