A Real Pain 2024
I really appreciate how realistic this film was in showing that grief isn’t something which can just be resolved through a few conversations with your cousin, or a week long trip to Poland. However, although this perspective was pretty original to me, I don’t think it made for the most satisfying film, mainly cause the whole thing just began to feel a bit repetitive after the hour mark. Overall, I’m glad I watched, it was interesting, but I did come away a little bit disappointed.

In terms of pure technical and creative achievement I think this film is pretty unmatched, it was literally one of the most impressive things I’ve ever seen. The whole exploration of nihilism was also captured so well, and came to a really lovely conclusion; if nothing matters, then you can pick what is important in your life, whether that be your relationship with your daughter, or simply doing laundry and taxes with a husband you love.
