surprisingly heartfelt, this film weaves every aspect of the plot together beautifully. going into it, i thought only children would empathise with and care for these characters. however, the emotional backstory for shadow completely changed my perspective, making me empathise deeply and feel genuinely invested. the theme of revenge was particularly striking, as the film portrayed it with unexpected depth and nuance. adding to its charm is a classic performance from jim carrey, who brings his a-game with his signature quirkiness turned all the way up.
