I was born in 1996 and "Boyhood" hit the spot for me in terms of cultural relevance. I also listened to pop-punk, played the hell out of Halo, read certain types of magazines during my adolescent years, had what I thought were profound conversations about deleting Facebook, and thinking I was different due to my gloomy world view.
The movie hit a little over the top with the various male father figures of various degrees of toxicity. They were a bit hollow compared to Ethan Hawk's character. But, overall the movie made me introspective which made me appreciate it massively.
