I was born in 1996 and "Boyhood" hit the spot for me in terms of cultural relevance. I also listened to pop-punk, played the hell out of Halo, read certain types of magazines during my adolescent years, had what I thought were profound conversations about deleting Facebook, and thinking I was different due to my gloomy world view.

The movie hit a little over the top with the various male father figures of various degrees of toxicity. They were a bit hollow compared to Ethan Hawk's character. But, overall the movie made me introspective which made me appreciate it massively.

I did not get it on the first watch. Much better the second time around. The acting from Seymour Hoffman, Adams and Phoenix stands out as quite captivating. The Freddie character feels like a consolidation of all the trauma from the war put into one face

Great visuals, score and cinematography throughout. The bird view of the apartment complex was definitely a highlight. Lovely set of characters, with snappy dialogue reminiscent of a Murakami novel.
