Conclave 2024
eh this was really just fine. kind of surprised it’s such a strong awards season contender. it’s pretty well written, performances are ok, ending is by far the most interesting part to me and i wish it came earlier, but i feel like the teeth of the film never really sink in all the way…. all in all conclave is a true neutral experience to me: not bad, not great, not substanceless, not in possession of true conviction. some of the shots are really beautiful, though.

Nosferatu 2024
nosferatu is delightfully and unnervingly and beautifully grotesque, and so artfully crafted. the stunning, wholly embodied performances, especially from lily rose depp, are a highlight. im such a sucker for the equal helpings of terror and whimsy and darkness and melodrama in gothic novels (the mad woman, rain thrashing against windowpanes, graveyard resurrections, etc.), and nosferatu really does feel so true to the literary genre of its source text. like i loved how even in the scenes that take place…
