Beautiful film… only 3 stars bc some weird sexual stuff. I can’t believe he’s the same director to make some Nicholas Sparks style movies. This film felt so free spirited I was surprised he went pretty big in Hollywood.
I like how the feel of the film is amoral and doesn’t really try to teach any part of the story too hard and it really is a kid experiencing some real hard pains in life and some of life’s best gifts.. that he wouldn’t have really seen without the trouble his mother went through

I agree with what others are saying, it’s generally boring. The plot twist was not rich enough for it to feel like a true noir. The male characters were flat just general “military” men. I also wish there was a better use of music

I think the 1992 adaptation was better.. this is the first Robert Eggers film I saw, but the sexual stuff in the film was pretty nasty (but apparently that’s how his other films are?) I like the 1992 version better bc I think it shows a good mix of the trance that the vampires put ppl in and I think the part with the castle made more sense.. the film was really pretty with the consistent colors and the way it felt black n white..
