Angst 1983
One of the best horrors ever. Just so frenetic and revolting and frightening. Camera doesn’t ever stop moving — half the time it’s looking top down at him like it’s Resident Evil or it’s super up close on his face.
The whole thing is distinctly un-human, neither him nor his victims appear to be real people, relatable in any way, almost like video game caricatures. Yet he’s distinctly nervous, agitated, making audible sounds in fear and desperation. I think it’s what makes us, the audience, so unnerved — this idea that someone so violent, so purposeful, is more scared of his actions than we are.

Bones and All 2022
So much better on rewatch. Something prescribed me to come back to this movie … existential dread, 80s middle-America, violence & morality. Maybe it was True Detective season 1 that spurred me to revisit.
I could see myself watching this every couple years.
