Director Makoto Shinkai became a household name when he released Kimi no Na wa in the summer of 2016. His latest release, Weathering With You (天気の子) "Child of Weather", builds upon the Shinkai universe in beautiful and intricate ways. Inspiration from earlier films like 5 Centimeters Per Second and Garden of Words linger in the rain and along the train tracks of one of the most beautiful narratives brought to animation that I've seen in recent memory.
