  The Artist 2011

  2011 Best Picture Nominees List:

  I'll always enjoy films about filmmaking, and the late 1920's is a fascinating era to cover, especially when its told through the lens of the very films from that era.

  It was fun but doesn't quite feel best picture worthy, as this *is* what won in 2011, which having come to the end of the nominees for, just felt like a rather weak year all around. I would have chosen The Tree of Life over this personally.

  Not bad though. A fun sub-2-hour watch, and a pretty good intro to silent film for the uninitiated.

  War Horse 2011

  2011 Best Picture Nominees List:

  It's amazing how this film is recognisably a Spielberg film, and yet also feels like nothing more than a shadow of Spielberg films.

  Great Cinematography and great production design don't make up for the fact that War Horse is a War film with absolutely nothing meaningful to say about War. It's a flaw with the book that carries over significantly into the film. Not a fan.

  It amazes me how a film can be so low key and so subtle when it comes to a subject as harrowing and heavy as the one it handles. 

  Also to the person who took not one, but THREE photographs of the film, WITH the flash on: I hope all of your socks get lost in the dryer.

  Sonic the Hedgehog 3 2024

  Dude how do these movies genuinely keep getting better and better. By far the strongest emotional core of the three sonic movies so far, Jim Carrey once again shines both as Ivo and Gerald Robotnik. 

  I don’t think I’ve laughed harder at a movie in a while, genuinely there are so many lines and moments that had me fucking HOWLING. 

  Also while I’m not the biggest Sonic Fan, there are some really neat references that even I caught onto. Lovely stuff all around.
