The Thing 1982
A cavalcade of ingenious practical effects that are more than enough to make cgi tremble in shame, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Perhaps John Carpenter’s best film, THE THING is a captivating study of society’s paranoia, perhaps more relevant now than ever. It’s also an entertaining thrill ride with a stacked cast, superb cinematography, and a damn good script.

Entertaining foolishness about a secret society of satanists and their curation of a womb to carry the Antichrist, resulting in the FASTEST PREGNANCY EVER. That old campy darling Herbert Lom looks like he’s having a good time, and the entire cast is very committed to this nonsensical hooey. Very early 90s Italian fare that doesn’t hold a candle to its predecessors from prior decades. It’s still preposterously fun though.

…and the truth is Dario Argento’s “Tenebrae” is everything one could hope for in a Giallo…and then some.
