i watched this right after reading a lovely essay by jacqueline rose on simone weil on the train so i'm just thinking about love for the other that doesn't strive to deny or do away with ambivalence or one's own capacity for cruelty, about how justice can only exist if it exists for the most downtrodden, and about the ultimate frailty of force.
