A bizarrely and uniquely edited thriller that is pretty tight but rough around the edges at times. Colin Ferrell delivers a masterclass, and I love Kiefer Sutherland but his voice over throughout this is a bit off putting at times. It is good enough to keep you entertained but not much beyond that. It also comes across as one of the most early 2000s movies ever

Do I look like I am negotiating?

Really gets off to a strong start with the legal conspiracy angle, but I’m not sure that the core mystery and conspiracy is strong enough to carry a 2 hour long movie. After the death of one of the lead characters it feels like it drags a bit. But that closing scene is absolutely incredible. This is really carried by George Clooney, because when he is in his pocket, which this is perfectly within his range, he is one of the most entertaining and charismatic actors ever that could elevate any film

Babette is one of my new favorite…

Sometimes you watch a movie and sit in silence for a minute afterwards, and this one gives you a minute to do so before the credits hit. I found a lot of similarities to Tree of Life, in its artistry, cinematography focusing in on nature, and larger questions it asks.

It certainly was a slow burn, and I felt very similarly to how I felt about Tree of Life. I respect the art and craft but just didn’t fully click…
