    My 4,000th Film

I decided to make the conclusion to Kobayashi's sprawling anti-war my 4,000th in virtue of it being the highest-rated LB film I'd yet to see. I watched the first film years ago, and I've been putting the sequels off because of their combined mammoth length, but it was so pleasant to see how engrossing these films are. Each one is so densely packed with dramatic moments and stirring dialogue that the time ceases to slow the momentum…

    Where I Buried Him

    Hey all,

I put together a short piece recently and I figured I'd share it rather than just sit on it. I might share more pieces every once in a while if I feel confident enough. You can find it here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfmofDutyJs.

This is the type of shit that film school teaches you how to write, and they don't even make these movies anymore. Watch the first scene then switch to something else. The beginning number makes you feel like you're about to watch the most sublime combination of VistaVision and 50s set design ever made. Then the rest of the movie just kinda happens. It's trying to recreate My Fair Lady but with the gimmick that Audrey Hepburn is some She's All That fixer-upper while still looking like Audrey Hepburn. To add on, they made her a bookworm. So now she looks like…

    My 2,000th Film!!!

I feel dumb for putting this film off so long because I found myself impressed by every scene. The writing and sound editing feel so organic. I feel as if I know these people even without showing me a great amount of exposition or direct characterization. The archetypes feel universal. These characters are a part of my family, and perhaps every family.

The film has the density and the visual brilliance that it feels like a movie…

    Guilty of Romance

    ★★

I decided to get this movie out of the way because it was sitting on my watchlist and because I was wondering to myself: What are we to take of Sono's work now?
Prior to his SA allegations coming out he was heralded as this provocative but feminist auteur. His women were always more fleshed out and sympathetic, and his men often witless and animalistic. Guilty of Romance is a perfect example of exactly that. But does that seem true…
