This a silly action movie masquerading as a Serious Film™️
For example, the shot of Schofield running along the trench as the army goes over the top, incredibly exhilarating, great moment for an action movie. As a commentary on war, it is not good!!! I should not be thrilled by this!!!! I should be horrified. I’m not saying every depiction of war should be like Saving Private Ryan, but this one completely misses the mark.
Also, the one take bit is just a gimmick. To be fair, sometimes, it can be quite effective. There is a reason why it works in smaller doses.
