Bank robber Herman Brood becomes a rock and roll star with the help of Nina Hagen and Lene Lovich.
Herman Brood and Nina Hagen hodgepodge. Truly, no idea what happened. There are a couple different languages spoken besides English and the subtitles were in Dutch, but the New Wave visuals of the stars, the makeup, and Amsterdam is beyond striking.
Brb making a "she was fearless. . . and crazier than him. . ." meme featuring Nina Hagen and Herman Brood.
Most of the dialogue in Cha Cha is a manic soup of English, Dutch, and German. But who really needs a plot when you have striking New Wave Eurostars painting Amsterdam red and getting into freewheeling shenanigans like some artsplo Hard Day's Night and ripping up the stage?
Worth watching for:
Herman Brood saying "rock and roll" in a thick Dutch accent. Yup he's one of those emaciated drugged out dudes who's got RAWK in his veins and has to shout to everybody about it! You can still see '70s cosplayers that look and act exactly like this any…
If you like Nina Hagen, you'll want to check this movie out. Also features some great performances by Lene Lovich and the Meteors. Unfortunately the main character and story don't live up to the musical demi-gods that surround it. It reminded me a lot of Ulli Lommel's 'Blank Generation' in that it had all it needed to succeed but somehow managed to suck. But still, Nina Hagen is cute as hell so watch it anyway.
Ik zou er een oneindige hoeveelheid geld voor over hebben om Brood als achternaam te hebben
Mensen denken altijd dat de leeuw de koning is maar ze moeten een beetje op die roodborstjes letten
This is more a video document than a movie. Amsterdam in the late 70s, with Herman Brood, Nina Hagen, Lene Lovich and other rock and New Wave bands at its peak. Most part of the movie consists of them doing gigs in Amsterdam's music temple Paradiso, freestate Ruigoord and other small joints in Amsterdam. More or less connected through some loose crime vs rock 'n roll story.
Watching this as a video document is great, to see old images from Amsterdam and its music scene at that time. A glorious Nina Hagen, as well as Lene Lovich, and Herman Brood just being himself. Without Herman Brood this movie probably wouldn't exist, and without Nina Hagen or Amsterdam's scenery this wouldn't be half as interesting.
fuck a plot Nina Hagen is cute as hell
Cha Cha is a movie about a guy who wants to become a rock star, but his dad tells him not to, because 'crime is the only way to make money'. So, he robs a bank with some friends (including Nina Hagen), and jumps out of the escape car mid escape, getting caught by police and put in an asylum (or possibly a rehab). After that the plot seemingly dissapears completely, making way for an hour long music video. Then Herman Brood and Nina Hagen get married.
I have no idea what's going on in this movie but I think this is how film buffs feel when they see an arthouse film.
Nina Hagen turns 70 today. Liebe Nina, Alles Gute zum Geburtstag!
The first time I heard the album NunSexMonkRock, it scared the shit out of me. What a masterpiece!
As for this film, no one is going to mistake it for Citizen Kane. The scenes without Nina Hagen or Lene Lovich are meh. Sorry Herman. It's really a showcase for Herman Brood and that's its biggest problem. We want more Nina. FUTURE IS NOW!
Worth every star just for "Herman's Door." The telling of a tale of Sid and Nancy, to the tune of Dylan's "Knockin' On Heaven's Door."
the plot is nearly incomprehensable even with subtitles, but if you dig the music, it's a fun time. any scene with nina hagen was stand out. wish we got a whole movie of hagen doing random shit, but alas, this was mostly a herman brood vehicle.
Plot dit, plot dat... boeit helemaal niemand jongens, dit is gewoon een keiharde vibe
nina hagen & lene lovich 😍😍
