After wrapping up the shoot of his upcoming period film, in which he also plays the lead character Mehboob, Indie film director-writer RK (Rajat Kapoor) struggles to piece his film together on the editing table. Imagine what if Charlie Kaufman comes with a story which is also cowritten by Yorgos Lanthimos, such a visual treat that would be! Though I know it's too much and somehow doesn't make any sense at all but still Rajat Kapoor's RK/RKAY is felt like watching a feature length version of NIMIC under the storyline of SYNECDOCHE, NEWYORK along with all indianalized characters, well that's how I can define it's story and way of storytelling as well as Rajat Kapoor' brilliant direction at the possibly best way as much as I can, but also what's not-to-be-forgetable here I.e offcourse RK's(Rajat Kapoor) magical touch along with literally flawless performance in his double roles, a chef's kiss on the top…

Absolutely hilarious, Rajat Kapoor's witty writing needs to be discussed more often. The idiosyncrasies of both the plot and the characters are in sync. Skillfully and slyly exploring human nature, behaviour and everything you probably don't question or talk about.
Sagar Desai's whimsical score adds to the melancholic, existential nature of the film with a layer you wouldn't expect to exist.
It begins as Day For Night, then moves to be 81/2 and finally goes on to become *insert any Charlie Kaufman written/directed film*. However, what's fascinating is RK doesn't lose his voice, which is at once methodical while at the other end deeply existential. It was present in Aankhon Dekhi as well, but here the questions are presented inwards- notably from RK's harrowing experiences in personal life. The humour is protracted, so are the characters. Here, the reel and real often stumble to ask who knows how long we'll live, and what is the worth of leaving a work behind. Does anyone even care?
What begins as a whimsical and idiosyncratic comedy, very soon becomes one of the best "literally me" films ever made. Rajat Kapoor's best work maybe, man has been constantly evolving as a filmmaker and never ceases to amaze me. There's so many layers to this film which can't be appreciated with a short LB review so I strongly recommend everyone to watch this. Go in blind like me, without reading anything about it and you'll be blown away.

Rajat Kapoor has brought it to life with a great cinematic ode and references.
A slight lull sets in after the interval but does very little to dent its vision. Shorey is a standout with the over the top 70s villain impersonation.

Finally got to watch this film after a wait of idk how many years. Still regret not contributing to the crowd funding campaign of this film. And I can't believe that he pulled off this film in such a miniscule budget.
This is an out and out Rajat Kapoor show. Him doing what he does best without any thing that holds him down. An Rk fan will see shades of all his previous work in here from Raghu Romeo & Mithya to even Khoya Khoya Chand.
On the surface it's an interesting and fun concept which is quite enjoyable for everyone whereas deep down it is a study of the writer/filmmaker questioning his latest film, the superficial characters he has created and himself.
Also isn't it a sheer joy to see Ranvir Shorey and gang in all RK films 😃

Writer and director Rajat Kapoor playing actor and director in his film , works for me . Hmmmm idk man there are so many things to say . All I could feel was when I watched this was the disciple by chaitanya tamhane and Charlie Kaufman movies.
If this isn't Cinema , then I don't know what is.

had the honour of watching RK/RKAY in the presence of Rajat Kapoor at #PIFF and we had such a blast.
This is a love letter to writers/filmmakers in the best and most weirdest way possible.
An idiosyncrasy laced with witty writing that made the audience laugh at every other sentence.
The cast is so perfect, each and every actor's like delivery is on point. Ranveer Shorey steals the show as always, but even Mallika Sherawat, Kubra Sait, Chandrachoor Rai and Manu Rishi Chadha are laudable.
Rajat Kapoor needs more praises, he's phenomenal in RK/RKAY, as a director, writer, actor, he delivers in all aspects.
