A hell of a fun time at the movies. It feels real good to see a new movie that looks this great. The cinematography is vibrant, the shadows stark, and the colors lush. You really don’t see movies look this good anymore. It’s a shame it’ll be streamed so dark and muddy on HBO Max or something for the rest of eternity.

Also, if this came out 15 years ago it would have made waves on USA Network or TNT on a Saturday afternoon.

James Mangold continues the Music Cinematic Universe (the MCU if you will) that he began with 2006’s Walk The Line, where Johnny Cash is the Tony Stark of this universe. Cant wait for the Joan Baez spinoff and the Woody Guthrie prequel series.

It's interesting that Jenna Ortega appears in both Scream and X. She is great in both, of course, but what's interesting is how one of these movies is so overtly obsessed with deconstructing it's subgenre (to the point of cringe worthy absurdity), while the other remains simple while shaking things up just enough to keep you guessing. X is fun, gory and, while it's not reinventing the wheel, it feels original in a way slashers haven't felt since the early 80's.
