feels like a surrealist painting of (what makes) the meaning of a man’s life; his memories, present life and dreams the brushstrokes, overlapping one another, imbricating, and rendering the viewer as the final arbiter of this meaning.

how is the final fifteen minutes the only affecting sequence of the film—which i think as a matter of fact jumps the shark

i have so many thoughts & feelings at the moment so that it is difficult to articulate them into words properly. firstly, i haven’t read Sally Rooney’s book. but, as at certain times in the film, i’m curious to know how this existed in book form in the first place. it must’ve been one hell of a rigmarole. now back to the film, there’s absolutely nothing i can say/write that will catch the masterpiece that this is. perhaps a dissertation will do, lol. but one thing above all stands sure: characterisation is the currency of this picture. & that they did so-painstakingly well.

This moving vignettes of ‘japa,’ Eyimofe, informs on what a brilliant Nigerian screenplay should be like. And with Eyimofe you have to pay attention. I am convinced that if it weren’t for my decent scholarship in cinema & storytelling, I would’ve struggled with the subtle details, unsaid anecdotes in this picture. Thanks to Martins for the year-long rec. There is no better time than now for me to have seen this film. An important work, this, and a cultural memento. I’m proud.
